Second I saw the lineup for BH6 I got this real feeling of déjà vu
You can push and pull at features all you want (which they hardly did) but the origin of each of the female character models is still very obvious
I like Disney. I really do. But as an artist and someone who studied animation and character design in college, it’s beyond frustrating to see this kind of thing happening over the space of three consecutive movies.
At least the ladies in Big Hero 6 have different body types.
man, they’re all so different. Like, massively so. different eyes, different spaces between features, small noses big noses high noses low noses almond eyes big round eyes different nasolabial folds different teeth different ratio of eyes:head
2D animated characters from disney are as similar as these girls are. Jasmine looks like Belle, who looks like Ariel. What’s different? Their noses, and eyes? You mean, just like these girls? It blows my mind when I hear people complain they all look the same because they just… don’t… and it’s probably just because they’re CG, and the people saying these things haven’t seen much of it. I honestly think at this point people are sort of trying to just see similarities, of obviously which there are many, because they just miss 2D animation and feel 3D animation is less artful
You can only caricature a face so much without it losing the expressiveness you need for emotive, dramatic acting, and yes I can say this because Disney isn’t making a goddamn experimental art film, they’re making something that everyone who has seen a disney movie can draw from using a house style they’ve had for like 60+ years.
yes, the space between eyes is usually one eye. Yes, it’s a house style to have the space between nose and lips be very small.
….the most similar thing between them is their goddamn eyebrows, and the three-point lighting
Like if you really think Rapunzel looks like Gogo then I mean I don’t know what to tell you, go look at more 3D portraiture or something
YES. People tend to forget that the 2D characters have similar features too. Disney has been doing this for decades, just because everything is CGI now doesn’t make it any different.
Yes, they look alike, but it’s the STYLE, not their facial features.Characters like Anita and Princess Aurora, Wendy and Alice, Belle and Ariel look very similar to each other but you can spot the differences. It’s the same thing here; if you were to crop everything but the face, I’d still be able to tell who’s who. It’s all about the style they’re designed in, not the facial features themselves.
I am so sick of people complaining about this.
justifying that with #style seems kinda disingenuous
“man, they’re all so different. Like, massively so. different eyes, different spaces between features, small noses big noses high noses low noses almond eyes big round eyes different nasolabial folds different teeth different ratio of eyes:head.”
lmao please stop
